Posted on 24 Feb, 2014

If you need a bit of laughter to brighten up your day, the Brisbane Comedy Festival in 2014 has 40 acts up to the task. With humour as their weapon, watch as they make you lower their guard and have you chortling and giggling at the end of their performances. The Brisbane Comedy Festival 2014 is held at the Brisbane Powerhouse between 25th of February and 23rd of March 2014.

Tickets range in price depending on the act. Headline acts range from the bizarre to quirky but they are all bound to be hilarious. From magic shows to Vikings to fresh emerging talent to an honest tale on suicide, see below for a sneak preview of what's in store for you:

Jenny Wynter: A Viking Tale-
If you like your comedians fierce with attitude, Jenny will entertain you and help you find your viking within. Held at the Turbine studio from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8.45pm, Jenny is the winner of the Award for Excellence in Carbaret Melbourne Fringe and the nominee for Victorian Green Room Award Cabaret Writing. If you fancy a bit of whimsical fun and are a fan of vikings, come along for the ride.

Breakout Comedy-
If you are not content to watching just one comedian, why not watch this act of four? These emerging talents are young and fresh, with offbeat content. Held at the Turbine Platform from Tuesdays to Sundays at 8.45pm, come along and watch the chemistry between up-and-comers with different personalities. From an Australian strawberry eating champion to a Queensland RAW Comedy Champion, a 2012 Class Clowns winner, a radio presenter and an act with a million YouTube views, this is a group to watch out for.

Simon Keck: Nob Happy Sock-
Simon Keck tackles a topic that is not really discussed but which affects a proportion of Australians – suicide. Refreshingly honest and confronting, he manages to deliver a serious topic with honesty and hilarity. The winner of the Golden Gibbo at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Outstanding Comedy at the Melbourne Fringe Festival, Simon performs at the Gravity Room from Thursday to Saturday at 8pm.

All the above shows are held at the Brisbane Powerhouse 119 Lamington Street New Farm with free parking available. It is also a short 300m walk from the New Farm Park CityCat jetty.
