In November 2014, Brisbane will host the Group of Twenty (G20) Leaders Summit, the principal forum for international economic cooperation and decision-making. Over the days of the event, Brisbane will become capital city of the world, with leaders from the world's most influential economies gathering in our city.
Held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 15th and 16th November, the event is expected to attract more than 4000 officials and 3000 media representatives from around the world.
G20 is the most significant international event held in Brisbane since the 1982 Commonwealth Games and Expo 88. It will showcase Brisbane as a world class destination for business, tourism, education and events.
Here at The Manor Apartment Hotel Brisbane we want you to know that council will work closely with residents and businesses to ensure the city remains open and accessible throughout the event. Services such as waste collection, public transport and street maintenance will continue with as few disruptions as possible. Any changes to normal services will be communicated to the community in advance of the G20 Leaders Summit.
Most of the city will remain unaffected with normal services being available for a long weekend. Council's aim throughout the event is to balance the needs of Brisbane's businesses and residents with the safety and security requirements of Commonwealth and State Governments.
There will be some impact such as some changes to public transport in and around the Central Business District and South Bank, some road closures and diversions, and some changes to services in directly affected areas.
Queensland Government has declared a public holiday for the Brisbane Local Government Area on Friday 14 November 2014 to help manage impacts around the city. Details of this holiday can be found on the Queensland Government website.
If you have a G20 enquiry that specifically relates to Brisbane City Council activities and services, email the Council G20 team and here at The Manor Apartment Hotel Brisbane we will continue to post G20 updates as information becomes available.
