Naidoc Week and Black History Month
Join us here at the Manor Apartment Hotel Brisbane to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's heritage, history and future with a program of more than 20 free events throughout July. The month's activities include a range of exciting performances, traditional dance, art and craft, screenings, family fun days and exhibitions.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to recognise the contributions of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Events start in Queen Street Mall on Monday 8 July, 2013 including dreamtime story telling through music, dance and art.
Other activities include the Water Women's Art Collective painted stories. These works will be showcased in the Kids in Mind Art Gallery, Mater Hospital.
Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture at Gallery Of Modern Art with a range of talks, workshops, performances and film screenings.
You can also check out the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre - a passageway used by the Aboriginal people to hunt and gather. Great to school students.
