Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado
This exhibition is a magnificent survey of the development of painting
in Spain over three and a half centuries, and the first ever collection
of work from Madrid’s esteemed Museo Nacional del Prado (the Prado) to visit Australia.
Curated by the Prado especially for the Queensland Art Gallery, 'Portrait of Spain' highlights the internal and external factors that influenced the evolution of Spanish painting during the sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The exhibition includes masterpieces of renowned painters who worked in the Spanish Royal Court including El Greco, Velázquez, Ribera, Goya and Rubens

La Sala del Prado features an integrated cafe and interactive spaces that reflect cutting edge contemporary Spanish design. The enticing range of experiences relating to the rich exhibition themes and artists in ‘Portrait of Spain’ includes fun multimedia interactives and drawing activities, as well as programs and events for all ages.
