Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado

This exhibition is a magnificent survey of the development of painting in Spain over three and a half centuries, and the first ever collection of work from Madrid’s esteemed Museo Nacional del Prado (the Prado) to visit Australia.

Curated by the Prado especially for the Queensland Art Gallery, 'Portrait of Spain' highlights the internal and external factors that influenced the evolution of Spanish painting during the sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The exhibition includes masterpieces of renowned painters who worked in the Spanish Royal Court including El Greco, Velázquez, Ribera, Goya and Rubens

This is an unprecedented opportunity to see extraordinary works of art, created by some of history’s most revered painters, exclusively in Brisbane.
